It's a Zoo Out There

Whether you go ape over antelope or are zealous about the zebra, there's a wide world of animals awaiting you on the Web.

Writing a research paper? Check out the AZA Zoo & Aquarium Directory, which lists contact information for hundreds of zoos.

The following sites provide general information on all kinds of creatures:

  • The University of Michigan Museum of Zoology
Outlines geographic range, food habits, reproduction information and habitats for a wide variety of animals, from the giant anteater to the gray reef shark.

  • Discovery's Animal Planet
Provides information on all kinds of creatures.

  • Enchanted Learning
Learn about animals and print out pictures to color (great for project covers).

  • ThinkQuest Virtual Zoo
Offers information on habitat, lifestyle and more.

  • The Electronic Zoo
Provides links to sites on specific animals. A search on dogs pulls up everything from the Afghan Hound Club of America to Whippets - Breeders and Rescue Operations.

Zoos

The best information often comes from the people who know animals best - zookeepers. Most major zoos offer sites with online exhibits. Be sure to take a field trip to Washington D.C.'s National Zoo, Chicago's Brookfield Zoo, the San Diego Zoo and Bronx Zoo. Browse a complete list of zoos at ZooWeb.

Animal Cams

If you can't make it to the panda exhibit at the San Diego Zoo, you can still catch a glimpse of the furry fellows via their Panda cam. Catch up with hippos, seals and polar bears at the Toledo Zoo. For more zoo cams, check out Animal Planet.

For more information, see MuseumSpot's Zoos page.
